Belgian Office, Taipei

Passport

Belgium delivers biometric passports. Should you need a new passport, you will be required to come in person to the Belgian Office, Taipei (BOT) in order for us to collect the following biometric data:

  • Your picture, taken directly at the BOT (for any citizen older than 6).
  • Your digital fingerprints (2 fingers, preferably the forefinger, for any citizen older than 12).
  • Your digital signature (for any citizen older than 6).

Please note that :

  • If you need a new passport, you must be registered into the BOT’s consular population register
  • Passports are usually delivered within 7 days.
  • Belgian passports are valid for 7 years.
  • When uploading your biometric data, you may request that these data be kept for a period of 7 years (they are kept for 3 months by default). This will allow you to obtain, in case of loss or theft, a duplicate with the same validity dates as you original passport, hereby saving you a trip to the BOT.

How to ask for a new passport ?

The procedure varies according to the age of the enquirer.

Adults and children older than 6

Adults and children older than 6 must come in person to the BOT in order to have their picture, signature and fingerprints taken. Prior to this, please kindly print and fill in the form (in French or in Dutch) and bring the following:

  • A copy of your Belgian identity card and/or passport
  • For children under 18, a copy of at least one of the parents exercising parental authority’s Belgian identity card or passport
  • Cash at the First Bank of our building or by bank transfer  (see consular fees)

Children under 6

Children under 6 are not required to come in person to the BOT as they are exempted from having their fingerprints and signature taken. The request can be sent by mail with the form (in French or in Dutch) duly signed and completed along with the following:

  • Two ID pictures. If you come in person, a biometric picture will be taken instead.
  • A copy of at least one of the parents exercising parental authority’s Belgian identity card or passport
  • A copy of the child’s Belgian identity card and/or passport
  • Proof of payment (see consular fees)
  • Should you want us to send you the passport once it has been produced, please provide us with a stamped envelope with name and address.

Picking-up your passport

In principle, we will deliver the passport directly to its holder. However, you may give an explicit and written authorisation for someone to pick your passport up for you. Your passport may also be sent to you if you provide us with a stamped envelope with name  and address.
